I can't believe we have not been boarding since I became pregnant with Tyler -that's nearly 5 years ago!!
It was well worth the wait to see Tyler boarding down the slopes though. After a few runs of hand holding he did it on his own. He isn't fish tailing just yet but he'll go a couple of yards and then turn to stop. I am so pleased that Tyler really got into it. I was afraid he would get discouraged by the falls but he kept at it. In fact, he would not even let us help him after a while. He looked so cute shimmying his board to get momentum. I can't wait to get him back on the slopes. I want to get him his own gear to by pass the rental lines and costs next time . If anyone has kids snowboard gear for sale please let me know.
Aside from boarding, Tyler was quite the casanova back at the cabin. We shacked up for the weekend with my sister-in-law and some family friends. Tyler nearly attached himself at the hip to one of the girls. (I say girls but should say ladies b/c they are in their mid 20s). Once she left, he moved on pretty quick to the next lady. At one point, I had to draw a line to give his lady friend some space. I literally drew a line on the couch and told Tyler to stay on his side. So, of course, he sits as close as possible to his side of the line and then he asks his lady friend to come sit close as possible on her side of the line as well so that they are sitting side by side. He's a clever one.
Carter's nick name is "Swiper" these days because like most babies his age he can reach and grab things quite well. At a blink of an eye he some how manages to grab on to anything within reach. We have had a few accidents around the dinner table with this kid. Hence, we endearingly call him "Swiper".
Carter is sitting up comfortably now but every once in a while he will fall backwards so we always keep a pillow behind him. He is not crawling yet but has been creeping on his back. One day when we were playing on the floor, I was preoccupied by Tyler for just a few seconds when I looked down and found Carter half way under the coffee table like a mechanic looking under the hood of a car. He seemed to be amused with whatever was under the table b/c he was kicking his legs and cooing.
Let's see...what else? Oh, we started solids about a month ago. He is slowly acquiring a taste for it. He takes at best half a jar at each meal. If this was my first baby I would probably be worried considering some other babies his age are eating full jars, but he's growing and he's progressively getting better with the solids.
How is Tyler with Carter? Very protective and loving most of the time. One time when I jokingly said to Carter that I would send him to time out, Tyler became upset and with tears lingering in his eyes said, "No, no time out for baby!" This is not to say that Tyler does not have his bouts of aggression with Carter. Sometimes Tyler tries to wrestle the poor kid. I don't know how many times I've told Tyler not to pull on Carter's arms or legs when I'm holding him. But surprisingly, Carter tries to hold his own. Sometimes when Carter's had enough, he throws himself backwards, turns stiff as a board and screams bloody murder. This actually startles Tyler and he backs off with a sheepish smile.
We finally did what any self respecting quintessential family with children do - we went to Disneyland of course! I think I was more excited about going than Tyler was and he was quite excited. Tyler was apprehensive about going on many of the rides but once he did he always wanted to ride it again - well, except for Pirates of the Caribbean. He did not like the two little dips in the beginning. Poor kid kept asking if another dip was ahead the entire duration of the ride. hehe. Carter was too young to really notice much but I'm sure he was just content being at the happiest place on earth with his three favorite people. If you have time, take a minute to watch Tyler on Tea Cups posted on my YouTube page.
