As a parent, I always wonder if I'm saying the right things or giving the right answers.....
Tyler: Mommy, is today tomorrow?
Me: (Huh?) No, tomorrow will be after we sleep one night.
Tyler: Remember Nicholas said yesterday, "You can come over my house tomorrow."
Me: Yes, then today would have been tomorrow yesterday. (double HUH?)
Tyler: So today is tomorrow?
Me: (Urgh....) Kind of. Today is the day Nicholas was talking about yesterday.
Tyler: So I can go over to his house?
Me: Yes! (save me!)
So I realize I'm not writing as much about Carter. It's just that he isn't talking just yet but he is grunting a lot. He tries to get our attention by grunting. Actually, it sounds more like, "eh eh". He's not quite crawling - more like sliding around. Slides backwards very well. Let's see what else? Has two bottom teeth and two on the top just broke through couple of days ago. Needless to say, we haven't getting much sleep at night. This is him trying to crawl. He will be exactly 10 months on the 10th of this month.
Yesterday I heard Ray's motorcycle pulling in the garage so I got up and headed towards the front door yelling, "Daddy's home!". Tyler jumped up and asked, "You gonna make rice, mommy?" Can we be more Asian?
Tyler's a really picky eater. He likes his pasta plain and likes only a handful of dishes. In hopes of setting a good example every opportunity I get I would say, "Sure, I'll try that. I'm not picky." So that's the background.
We went out for breakfast one morning and Tyler couldn't decide between plain and blueberry pancakes. Here's what he said:
Tyler: Mommy, I'll get the plain pancakes and you get the blueberry pancakes and we can share. OK?
Me: Well, sorry, Tyler. I'm not in the mood for blueberry pancakes.
Tyler: Yes, mommy, you order blueberry pancakes. Remember you're not a picky eater?
Yes, one of my guilty pleasures is American Idol and Tyler knows it. Last night I was putting Carter down to bed when Tyler creeps up and says with wide eyes, "Mommy, American Idol is on".
I said, "Oh, I'll be right there as soon as Carter falls asleep."
Tyler: "Okay."
He runs downstairs. I hear him yell, "Daaaddy, American Idol is on!".
According to Ray, Tyler then said, "Pause it for mommy." (Melts my heart).
In my defense, Tyler enjoys the show too. He's a David Archuletta fan. Every time David appears, Tyler always yells, "I'm him! I'm him! That's me!" With that said, he says daddy is David Cook and I'm "the blonde lady with long hair", "Brooke".
On a side note, it's official, 'lil Carter is a Duong. When he gets his hands on the remote control, he holds it up in the air and points it towards the tv. Makes me laugh every time I think about it. Says a lot about our tv addiction but come on - it's adorably funny (in a sad way) - isn't it given that he's only 9.5 months? Yah, it's sad but our baby's a genius!!! LOL
When is the last time you heard that phrase? Almost twenty years (sigh) for me. Tyler just watched ET for the first time and hearing him say, "E.T. phone home...", in a slow low gutteral voice and pointing his index finger in the air just kills me. I really love that we can enjoy this movie together. We're having a great time running all of E.T.'s lines to each other, i.e. "Ooouch, Beeee Goooood, I'll beee right here...". I loved this movie the first time I saw it but watching it again as an "adult" with my little boy made me appreciate it so much more profoundly. So many good messages in the movie.
My favorite cousin had her second baby, a little boy named, Jacob! He's just a couple of days old in this video and already sooooo cute. I can't wait to meet him! I almost forgot how little and precious they are at this age. Makes me consider having another one just for a split second and then I come to my senses. Carter's almost nine months already. Time sure flies.
